  1. In June 1999, Napster was released as an unstructured centralized peer-to-peer system, requiring a central server for indexing and peer discovery. It is generally credited as being the first peer-to-peer file sharing system. In December 1999, Napster was sued by several recording companies and lost in A&M Records, Inc. v. Napster, Inc.. In the case of Napster, it has been ruled that an online service provider could not use the "transitory network transmission" safe harbor in the DMCA if they had control of the network with a server.

  2. Files were first exchanged on removable media. Computers were able to access remote files using filesystem mounting, bulletin board systems (1978), Usenet (1979), and FTP servers (1970's). Internet Relay Chat (1988) and Hotline (1997) enabled users to communicate remotely through chat and to exchange files. The mp3 encoding, which was standardized in 1991 and substantially reduced the size of audio files, grew to widespread use in the late 1990s. In 1998, MP3.com and Audiogalaxy were established, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was unanimously passed, and the first mp3 player devices were launched.

  3. File sharing is the practice of distributing or providing access to digital media, such as computer programs, multimedia (audio, images and video), documents or electronic books. File sharing may be achieved in a number of ways. Common methods of storage, transmission and dispersion include manual sharing utilizing removable media, centralized servers on computer networks, World Wide Web-based hyperlinked documents, and the use of distributed peer-to-peer networking.

  4. If you're a safe (slow and boring) driver like me, you feel like you're just throwing away money every year on your car insurance. What's your car insurance? Here's a list of the best car insurance companies for 2021.

Geico's clever commercials ensure that it remains one of the best-known car insurance options in the country, but its customers know the company for the great service and support it offers, along with some of the cheapest insurance prices. Geico's 97% customer satisfaction rate speaks for itself, as does its long list of honors, including the most desired insurer according to Kanbay Research Institute. You know, just in case the gecko isn't enough to convince you that you want its insurance coverage.

A giant in the insurance world with over 18 million customers, Progressive manages to attract and retain so many satisfied customers with continued commitment to saving its customers money on their car insurance rates. Progressive was the first auto insurer to offer safe driver discounts, which makes the company a great option for people with a good driving record who are looking for the cheapest car insurance options. Even today, customers who switch to Progressive save an average of $699 on their car insurance premium per year.

Auto-Owners Insurance may not have the flashy marketing presence of the competition, but how many of them can say they've been around almost as long as cars have? Established in 1916, the company has nearly 3 million car insurance policy holders across 26 states. Its high rankings from J.D. Power might prompt you to check if it has coverage where you live.

Ranked the No. 1 auto insurer in California, Esurance in quickly making inroads around the country (the company operates in 43 states). A division of Allstate, Esurance promises customers that switching or signing up for car insurance can be as easy as possible, or "painless," as the company puts it.

Users agree with the assessment, as reviews on the website call attention to how fast and easy it is to sign up with this car insurance provider, either online or with the Esurance app. And calling all introverts, you likely won't have to talk with an insurance agent directly to get set up.

Operating globally, Liberty Mutual is the fifth-largest property and casualty insurer in the world. Still, the company makes it very clear that its business starts with you and the first step in that journey is getting an insurance coverage quote.

Most insurers offer free car insurance quotes on their websites, but Liberty Mutual offers you discounts for using its own -- you can save up to 12% off your rate by getting a car insurance policy quote online.

With over 90 years covering drivers, Nationwide has learned a thing or two about what keeps customers happy (and in turn, what keeps them customers). The company's list of visions and values shows exactly where its priorities lie.

Top ratings from a variety of outlets (such as A.M. Best, S&P and Moody's) would suggest that it's working. Those values extend to employees, as well -- Nationwide was ranked No. 53 in Fortune's most recent list of the "100 Best Companies to Work For."

Among the many plans Travelers offers is a car insurance coverage policy that you can customize based on your needs. Rather than upsell users, Travelers offers a host of resources (in the form of blog posts) designed to educate motorists prior to policy purchase. An informed customer is a happy customer.

A division of Liberty Mutual, Seattle-based Safeco has been in the car insurance business for over 85 years and has been a national presence for more than two decades. Safeco partners with local agents who can devote the time and attention that customers need in order to get all of their individual car insurance questions answered and coverage type requests met.

If we were judging solely on satisfaction, the United Services Automobile Association would take the top spot in our best car insurance companies rankings. What affects the USAA's ranking is that its scope is narrower than those of most other auto insurers, as the company only offers coverage to service members, veterans and their families. That said, USAA offers prices that even beat Geico's, with customers who switch saving an average of $707 a year.

  5. Contents here will be submitted to Elon Musk, so make it count! 🙂

So, what is a Filipino? Wikipedia has that covered. Is there a need to bring the Filipino culture to Mars? What for? Does humanity need a brown skinned, medium-sized humanoid? What are Filipinos good at? What unique Filipino culture/trait will help humans as whole progress in Mars and beyond? Or, are Filipinos just good for the Martian Preserve?

The Martian Preserve is a concept I just thought of now. Similar to how humans protect endangered species in Madagascar. In Mars there will be a protected area where different human races of the world will be kept... for historical purposes and needed experiments.

Like in zoos where we see pandas kept with bamboos, the Filipinos will be kept in a place with wifi, and given mobile phones loaded with social media apps.

This club aims to prevent this dystopia. Let's put our minds together. Let's write down the reasons why our culture and our descendants should make it to Mars as a respected functional Martian.

    Define the Filipino.

  6. Grandparents of the People of Mars,

Going to Mars is a generational effort. On your shoulders is the person who  carries on their shoulders the Martians from the Philippines. If it's not us, who will make sure that our culture makes it to Mars? Send Filipinos to Mars to continue the Filipino heritage. It starts with you.

  7. I was asked many times by different people, when I was a kid. Asked by relatives, teachers, classmates etc. Looking back I feel so lucky that people around me that time was interested in what I wanted to be when I grow up. Going back to the question...

During different stages of my life I had different ambitions. Right now, I want my grandkids to go to Mars. During my 40's I wanted to be a centenarian, I ate only "painfully" nutritious food, and did "impossibly" healthy lifestyle. In my 30's I wanted to conquer the world. 20's I realized that none of my earlier ambitions were happening. That decade was the most difficult part of my life, so uncertain, so stressful, so many big decisions had to be made. That decade was also the time I read so many self-help books, which guided me through rough times. Thank you to the authors who shared their ideas with me!

When I was in grade school I wanted to be a teacher, inspired by my uncles who were teachers in Ateneo de Davao. Then I wanted to be a scientist when I was in grade 4-6. I also wanted to be a priest when I was in high school, and when I was in college i wanted to be both a man of science and a servant of God, a Jesuit. Enough about me.

What was your ambition? Were you able to fulfil your childhood dreams? Share your story 🙂

  8. Read this from the internet. Cut and paste.

Western media has largely fueled the notion that being young is everything. In many respects that may be true, but not in every respect.

Reaching 40 is a significant milestone, and in some cases a dreaded one. Nobody relishes getting older, yet, if you’re lucky it is assured. You are considered a member of the “middle aged” group and this comes as a shock because “they” were always that other group. You become profoundly aware of your mortality. You take stock of your life and often you’re disappointed; you expected to have achieved more or you’ve realised that the “rules of the game” were stacked against you. You may give up on your dreams and have to accept that your life trajectory is starting to look very mediocre. You may even go through a protracted period of reflection, maybe even depression, whilst you to try to find meaning, and it may take you awhile to accept it. It’s bizarre, really, because all that changed was that one number.

But, you start to insulate yourself from society’s notion, and you start to recover your sense of self-worth based on your strengths. You realise that you have life experience, perhaps a good marriage, children, your health, a good standard of living, a good career and maybe some money. You may become thankful for what you do have, and you start to move forward more maturely. And then, bang, 50 arrives. WTF?

However, life is not over at 40. Of course not; you’re still breathing. You’ll go through a period of adjustment and you move on. Yes, for the first time, you will experience comments about your age. You will also have youngsters ignore or avoid you, but you quickly realise that you don’t need or want their approval. There may be new aches and pains, but, for the most part, life goes on as before. Hell, I even took up skiing at 47, and at 52 I’m now a strong all-terrain skier. Try not let the number get in the way and embrace life; it is there to be lived.
